Broadband over Power

Currently broadband internet options are limited to variations of a T1 line, DSL options and Cable. In many areas the more affordable DSL and Cable options are not available at all or have only one provider to choose from. The power industry is rapidly moving towards offering Broadband internet service in the near term and affordable pricing. Expected pricing is to be around $25/month for speed comparable for what you may be paying $35 or more at this time. Offering broadband is not the primary goal of power companies however, it is a side effect of their efforts to modernize equipment. The power companies will be replacing all meters with new electric meters that send back power usage information in real time. This will help stabilize power demand and will effect pricing, but it also allows for the potential of supplying two way high speed data over the power lines in the form of broadband internet access.
