Next Generation Firewire

The Firewire standard is set for a new more intelligent release within the next few years. The new Firewire standard is focusing its efforts on the needs of transportation efforts such as within automobiles and aircraft, but simplifying and limiting the amount of wiring and technology required to offer interaction with various components and media interfaces. The new Firewire will take on the complexity normally handled by software in many areas, making it more attractive for adoption by innovative developers of new solutions.

Firewire is also looking to operate over coax cabling to provide networking throughout the home over the existing Cable TV wiring.
