Bluetooth over UWB

Agreement has been reached between the people behind the successful Bluetooth technology used today in many cell phones and other small portable devices and the up and coming technology Ultra Wideband. The result is that they will combine their efforst and the next generation of Bluetooth will operate over Ultra Wideband, giving performance that is 100 times faster than the current Bluetooth 2.0 EDR specification in use today. This will provide Bluetooth with short distance performance that rivals the upcoming WIFI upgrade 802.11n. By 2008 we can expect these technologies competing for the task of moving video and audio and other high demand files around short local networks, especially for use in home entertainment to take a HDTV signal and send it wirelessly to a large flat screen television as well as to wireless speakers throughout the room as an example.
