Apple details Snow Leopard Server PDF Print E-mail

Apple has announced its plans for the next Mac OS X Server. Mac OS X Server 10.6 Snow Leopard will be a dramatic improvement over the current Mac OS X 10.5 Server. The new release will have vastly improved support for multiple core computers and support for utilizing the power of high performance video cards. In addition to these features which it shares with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard client, the server edition will have an improved email server with greater throughput potential, server side rules and vacation notifications. Additionally, the server will have an improved version of iCal Server and Podcast Producer along with tools to simplify creation of wikis and content for iPhones. The most exciting news is Address Book Server for robust sharing of contacts among a workgroup and full support for the ZFS filing system which has the potential to revolutionize the capabilities of Time Machine, the backup solution introduced with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

We at Sollos will be counting the days until the release of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard both in its client and server forms as these features constitute the promise of what was to be Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, but which in reality has come up short of those promises.
