X11 is a graphical environment developed for Unix. It appears similar to Microsoft Windows. The purpose ot X11 is to offer a consistent graphical interace for Unix desktop software. Mac OS X 10.3 and later can natively run X11 software. On Mac OS X, X11 gets accellerated video and can intergrate with Mac OS X printers, networks, and other services.
While X11 is not the same experience as running a native Mac OS X application, it does give Mac OS X users the chance to use all of the X11 software applications that are freely available. This software will run with full features just as it does on any other X11 capable computer.
